EtiquetteWhen traveling across these regions, greet people with a firm handshake and maintain direct eye contact. Punctuality is strictly valued—being even 5 minutes late without warning is considered disrespectful (especially in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria). Personal space and privacy are deeply respected; keep your voice down in public spaces and on transportation. Dress modestly when visiting churches, castles, or historic sites. Showing an active appreciation for local traditions, learning a few basic phrases, and following strict recycling and environmental practices are highly valued social norms.
